Mats in various formats for teachers who have EAL students in their class. Some of these I have uploaded previously - on here they are updated. The infographic could be used as staff training: what does each image mean? There is a sentence generator and a mat for teaching new items of vocabulary which I have seen elsewhere in various forms. Hope these are useful!

September 26th - it's European Day of Languages. Gap fill and match up activities, focusing on the spellings of the languages and matching them to the countries.

Who was Richard III? Where and how was he found? Where should he be reburied?

This is a grid with question openers and tasks going through Bloom's taxonomy. It avoids modals (would, could, should, might) and compound tenses and uses simple language structures that students at an early level of English language acquisition can access.

A reading comprehension, with language exercises. This follows on from my reading comprehension 'Snow Day&'. This is differentiated - EAL students can put the verbs in the past simple, while more advanced students can tackle the discussion points.

I made this for a year 9 group doing Employability. The first topic was 'Punctuality.&' There are some EAL beginners in the group, so a few slides have got exercises they can access.

The students decide which adjectives/phrases describe the witches and which describe Lady Macbeth. Good for EAL students as they have to decide whether the third person agreement is needed.

This is a series of contrasting pictures, with questions, for making comparisons. Good 'brain gym&' activity.

Useful practice on describing a picture for the whole class and particularly for EAL students.

A few ideas for introducing the past simple - on the second sheet. On the first sheet is a little worksheet with exercises based on a street scene.

A set of cards requiring students to choose an option and justify it. Interesting mix of subjects: stop warfare or end disease? Give up crisps or chocolate? Be able to fly or communicate with animals...etc. They make great starter activities, practising 'I would rather...' and promoting creative thinking. The template is from eslprintables.

A wonderful picture by the artist Trevor Mitchell, with various exercises on the present continuous tense. When I contacted the artist for permission to use his picture, I found that he lives just a few streets away from me!

Useful in Business Studies - language activities to support EAL students around the process.

A passage about a boy making new year resolutions, with exercises. Can be used as a preliminary before students think up new year's resolutions for themselves. The template is by Baiba.

A reading comprehension, with questions and language activities. Jack and Kelsey brave the journey only to find that the school is closed.

This makes a good starter or filler activity. The first slide explains the activity and the second models it. Then, give each group a picture and ask them to mind map it. For extension, have them compare any two pictures.

There are 25 statements, some true, some false. The students have to correct the false statements. Ask them to shade the true statements and there is a hidden letter N, so you can check if they got it right. Then, ask them to read out or discuss their corrections in pairs and this leads to whole class discussion.

Quotes on various areas of life: happiness, success, family, technology in the classroom etc.... The students analyse, compare and contrast and make up their own. Each slide could be used as a starter to get your students thinking or to promote debate. They could end by producing an inspirational poster.
